Construction Activity is Shifting, not Stalling, says Expedite Director
Construction activity is shifting, not stalling. Despite ongoing cost pressures and labour shortages, UK construction activity is not disappearing; it is moving into different areas of the market.
According to EXPEDITE Director Andrew Aust, speculative new build, particularly in private housing, remains subdued. However, momentum is building in refurbishment, retrofit, infrastructure and energy-related projects. Infrastructure investment in particular is providing stability, with increased activity in energy centres and pipe distribution schemes nationwide.
Aust also highlights growing demand for internal refurbishments and office-to-residential conversions, suggesting confidence and policy clarity may be bigger barriers than cost alone.
