Mayors to decide on Major Regional Building Decisions
Planning decisions on major developments could soon move faster.
The Government is set to give England’s regional mayors greater powers to step into significant planning decisions, bringing them in line with powers already held by the Mayor of London. The proposals cover developments involving:
• More than 150 homes
• Commercial space over 15,000 sq m
• Buildings 30 metres or taller
Mayors could also grant permission directly to developers in certain cases, potentially cutting delays and helping major projects move forward sooner.
For the FM, M&E and wider built environment sectors, faster planning decisions could mean a stronger pipeline of developments coming to market and greater demand for the people needed to deliver, mobilise and manage them.
