Description

Assistant Project Manager

Location: Wakefield area

Salary: Circa £35,000 &  car allowance & paid mileage

Contract: Permanent

Sector: Charity / Supported Living

300 North are working with a leading national charity to recruit an assistant project manager.

This is a unique opportunity to support a major organisation-wide transformation, helping the charity bring greater control of its procurement, purchasing and facilities management services back in-house.

The organisation has already established its project plan, mobilisation programme and key workstreams. You will be responsible for bringing these areas together, maintaining effective project governance and ensuring the new operating model is successfully implemented by March 2027.

This is not a traditional construction Project Manager position. The role requires someone with a foundation in project delivery who can manage change, influence stakeholders and build support for new ways of working.

The Role

You will work closely with the National Head of Resources, Head of Estates and wider senior leadership team.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and maintaining the overall project and mobilisation plan.
  • Coordinating operational, finance, procurement, commercial and facilities workstreams.
  • Bringing internal teams, external suppliers and contractors together.
  • Monitoring project risks, actions, objectives, dependencies and deadlines.
  • Establishing clear governance, reporting and accountability.
  • Supporting the implementation of new procurement and purchasing processes.
  • Helping develop a compliant and value-driven approved supplier framework.
  • Leading stakeholder engagement, focus groups and change communications.
  • Building operational support for new systems and working practices.
  • Ensuring the needs of vulnerable people and frontline teams remain central to the project.
  • Supporting the longer-term development of the organisation's procurement function.

Following the successful completion of the project, there is an opportunity for the role to develop into a Group Procurement Manager position.

About You

This opportunity could suit an Assistant Project Manager, Junior Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Change Project Officer or procurement professional who is ready to take the next step in their career.

You should have:

  • Previous experience supporting or delivering projects.
  • An understanding of project governance, plans, risks and workstreams.
  • Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders and priorities.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The confidence to challenge constructively and manage resistance to change.
  • A calm, resilient and diplomatic approach.
  • The ability to take ownership while remaining open to guidance and development.
  • A genuine interest in working for a purpose-led organisation.

Experience within procurement, supplier management, facilities management, mobilisation or organisational change would be advantageous.

Knowledge of PRINCE2, or another recognised project methodology would be beneficial, although a formal qualification is not essential.

Experience within a charity, supported living, care, housing, healthcare, education or public-sector environment could also be particularly relevant.

The Opportunity

This role offers:

  • Direct exposure to senior leadership.
  • Support and mentoring from experienced senior managers.
  • The chance to lead a significant organisational transformation.
  • The opportunity to shape new procurement and supplier-management processes.
  • Clear progression towards a Group Procurement Manager position.
  • A role where your work will make a genuine difference to vulnerable people and local communities.
  • The freedom to build your profile and influence within a growing organisation.

The successful candidate will ideally be based within a reasonable commuting distance of Knottingley, as regular interaction with the senior team will be important during the project.
