The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join an established building services contractor based in Sheffield.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Project Manager with a strong mechanical building services background to take responsibility for a portfolio of projects ranging in value from approximately £1.5m to £10m.

Depending on project size and complexity, you will typically manage 2-4 projects simultaneously, overseeing delivery from pre-construction handover through to practical completion and final account.

Projects are varied and include building services installations across education, commercial, retail and secure/public-sector environments, including schools, shopping centres and prisons.

We are particularly interested in Project Managers who have developed their experience within a Tier 1 contractor or established M&E/building services contractor environment and are accustomed to managing projects at this level.

The Role

As Mechanical Project Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of your allocated projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing mechanical building services projects from pre-construction handover through to completion
  • Planning, programming and coordinating project activities
  • Managing multiple live projects depending on value, programme and complexity
  • Leading site teams and managing subcontractors, direct labour and supply chain partners
  • Managing procurement of materials, plant and subcontract packages
  • Monitoring project costs, variations, resources and overall commercial performance
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, programmes and contract documentation
  • Monitoring progress and identifying potential programme or delivery risks
  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, designers and internal teams
  • Attending project, progress and client meetings
  • Carrying out site inspections, quality checks, snagging and progress reviews
  • Ensuring RAMS and relevant project documentation are completed and maintained
  • Supporting testing, commissioning, client demonstrations and project handover
  • Ensuring high standards of Health & Safety throughout project delivery
  • Supporting and developing Engineers, Supervisors and Site Managers within the project team

About You

This position is aimed at an experienced Project Manager already delivering mechanical building services projects.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Manager within building services/M&E
  • Experience managing projects of significant value, ideally within the £1.5m-£10m range
  • The ability to manage several projects concurrently
  • A strong mechanical installation and technical background
  • Experience managing subcontractors, direct labour and supply chain partners
  • Strong programme, procurement and commercial awareness
  • Excellent client and stakeholder management skills
  • Good technical knowledge of mechanical building services installations
  • Good knowledge of current Building Regulations, British Standards and industry best practice
  • SMSTS
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • An NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Building Services or a related discipline is preferred.

Experience gained with a Tier 1 main contractor, major building services contractor or comparable M&E business would be particularly advantageous.

The position is based from Sheffield, with travel to project sites as required.
