The Role:
Our client, a leading energy and services company, is looking for an mechanical engineer to join their team. The contracts involve CHP engines, gas boilers and chillers as a means of supply of heat, electricity and cooling to a range of consumers.
Duties:
- You will have a good understanding of operations and maintenance, heating / chilling plant and distribution systems on a commercial / industrial level is desirable as well as expert knowledge of IT related monitoring systems.
- Efficient planning and execution of maintenance activities associated with the plant, including the stores and workshops management.
- Managing contractors working for the site ensuring their health and safety, as well as their performance.
- Will be required to respond to plant and equipment breakdowns during rota shift hours.
- Carry out other duties identified from time to time to ensure the plant is operating safely and efficiently within environmental compliance.
- Carry Extra Works outside of rota shift hours at an agreed ETC overtime rate.
- Contracted to a flexibility agreement covering training requirements and shift cover sometimes at short notice.
- Experience in the Servicing and Maintenance of Air Compressors would be preferable but not essential to the role.
- Implement maintenance activities, during planned and unplanned shutdowns to ensure optimal long- term availability of the plant and to preserve the value of the facility within approved budget
- Manage maintenance statutory inspections ensuring all documentation is completed and up to date
- Ensure careful management of the site stores and the mechanical maintenance workshop
- Ensure good housekeeping and maintenance standards of the plant and Mech Eng workshop
- Ensure that all Mechanical Engineering activities within the plant are carried out in a safe manner in line with policies, and relevant health, safety and environmental statutory requirements are met
- Carry out risk assessments to ensure activities are carried out in a safe manner, including site staff and contractors to ensure their safety.
- Working as part of a team achieving continual improvement within resource limits
- Ensure all visitors and contractors to site are inducted in the site safety and emergency procedures
- Participate in continual personal development within the organisation to achieve improved performance
- Foster creative thinking to encourage continual improvement
- Maintain and develop professional industrial relations to add value to performance
- Ability to demonstrate high values to ensure good team ethics
- Undertake any site specific and company training as required.
- Co-operate with, and assist other disciplines during all maintenance activities
- To assess existing plant and ancillaries for modification proposals in the event of items becoming obsolete.
Qualifications & Experience
- Possess SVQ III to SVQ IV or HND Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) qualifications
- Have preferably 5 years' experience working within a industrial enviroment within Mechanical Engineering discipline
- Possess an IOSH (or equivalent) safety qualification, training will be given
- Familiar with Permits to Work systems
- Knowledge and experience of associated repair methods in mechanical plant
- Experience in working with a Computerised Maintenance Management System
- Demonstrate a good understand of health, safety and environment legislation relevant to industrial environment.
- Will be expected to assist other disciplines as required.
