Assistant Commercial Manager

  • Salary: circa £45,000 Plus benefits 

The role
We have an opportunity for an Assistant Commercial Manager or Quantity Surveyor looking to step into a commercial management position within an infrastructure environment.

Working closely with the Cost & Commercial Director, you will support commercial, cost control, and governance activities across lifecycle works, variations, and compliance programmes, with clear progression into a Commercial Manager role.

This role would suit someone who is:



  • Looking for a step up into commercial management


  • Detail-focused, organised, and keen to develop


  • Interested in infrastructure, lifecycle, and construction projects


Duties



  • Supporting commercial and cost management activities


  • Assisting with tender reviews, cost plans, and contract documentation


  • Supporting cash flow forecasting and cost reporting


  • Monitoring consultant and supplier performance with senior support


  • Assisting with procurement activities and supplier appointments


  • Supporting governance, compliance, and assurance processes


  • Gaining exposure to lifecycle and variation management


Qualifications / Requirements



  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying


  • Working towards chartership (or strong commitment to progress)


  • Experience in a commercial construction role post-degree
    (supporting or assisting level acceptable)


  • Good understanding of cost planning, cash flow forecasting, and contract administration


  • Experience supporting capital project work programmes


  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders


  • High attention to detail with a strong commitment to governance and compliance


  • Familiarity with risk management and continuous improvement practices


  • Ability to successfully obtain a DBS check
