FUNDRAISING PARTNERSHIP WITH SMART WORKS LEEDS 2020
The team at 300 North like to do our bit for the community. Every year we take on a new challenge to raise money for a local charity or one that is close to the hearts of our team. Throughout 2020, to support our wellness and charitable aims, we are raising money through a number of sport and health based initiatives to support Smart Works Leeds.
The Smart Works mission is to help unemployed women regain the confidence they need to find success at job interview, secure employment and transform their lives. The service harnesses the transformative power of clothes and confidence. By providing interview coaching and donations of high quality interview clothing, the Smart Works charity are able to change the trajectory of another woman's story.
Smart works Leeds opened its doors on 12th November 2019. Since then they have been extremely busy building relationships with referral partners, resulting in 18 client appointments to date (with many more in the diary). Amanda O’Neill, Business Manager at Smart Works Leeds commented ‘We are so happy to say that over 80% of the women referred to us have been successful in securing work after a visit to Smart Works Leeds”. She goes on to describe some of the women helped so far, including:
“Pauline who was referred to us from the job centre. Pauline recently came to the UK after years spent working in Nigeria. She had been unemployed for over a year despite applying for numerous jobs. Within days of visiting Smart Works Leeds, Pauline went on to secure a job as an English teacher at a school in Bradford.
Bea who prior to coming to see us had applied for over 100 jobs with no success. This had massively knocked her confidence and self-esteem. After a confidence boosting dressing and coaching session with Smart Works volunteers, her self-belief was restored and she has since been offered a job as a teaching assistant.
Chantelle had applied for over 50 jobs before being referred to Smart Works Leeds. As a single parent with two children she wanted to be able to provide for her family. Being declined from numerous jobs was disheartening. After coming into our centre and spending time with our volunteers who found the perfect outfit to suit her style and thoroughly prepared her for interview, she has now been offered a job as an administrator.
Another client, a single parent with 3 children keen to secure financial independence but lacking in confidence after unsuccessfully applying for over 100 jobs, left our centre with a renewed feeling of self-worth. She has gone on to be offered a job as a health care assistant. She told us she felt like a TV star in her new outfit and couldn't thank us enough”.
We are so excited to be supporting Smart Works Leeds and will continue fundraising throughout 2020. Our aim is to help the charity to support even more women in the local area to secure employment and regain their confidence.
Working with charities is something that 300 North whole-heartedly support. It helps to build the skills of our team and at the same time, we are making a difference to our community.
